The bride is the daughter of Karin Massey and Andy Massey. She is a full time student at the University of Alaska Southeast.

The groom is the son of Ron and Chris Ekis. He is a laborer for the Labor’s Union.

Karmen Moreno of Juneau and Brandon McVey of Euegene, Oregon were wed on Nov. 15, 2015 in Kauai, Hawaii.

The brides parents are Paul Moreno and Konnie and Mike Chitty. The grooms parent’s are Gail Lund and Brad McVey.

Brandon proposed to Karmen on Aug. 21 on the Auke Lake Trail.

Karmen works at Juneau Car Rental and Brandon works at Wildflower Court here in Juneau.

A local reception will be held after they return from Hawaii.

The groom’s parents are Michael and Gillian Hayes of Juneau. The bride’s parents are Missy and Steve Cooper of Coos Bay, Oregon.

The bride is a JDHS graduate and attended Portland State University. The groom attended the University Alaska Southeast and Portland State University.

Family and friends will celebrate at a small gathering in early February at the Elephants Deli in Portland, Oregon, where the couple met.

Estes celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

Sharon (Wruck) and Jim Estes will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 30, 2015. The couple had an early celebration with family in July 2014 in Hawaii.

The couple has four children, their son Charlie in Juneau; their son Mike, his wife Kristi and their three sons in Australia; their son Tom, his wife Mischelle and their three sons in Oregon; and their daughter Jennifer, her husband Nate Abbott and their son in Juneau.

The groom’s parents are Kurt and Holly Savikko of Douglas. The bride’s parents are John and Jana McKell of Logan, Utah.

The bride is a graduate of Layton High School and attended the University of Idaho. The groom is a JDHS graduate and also attended the University of Idaho.

The wedding and reception were held at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. The couple will make their home in Kennewick, Washington.

The groom is the son of Bill and Audrey Diebels of Juneau.

The future bride graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boise State University and danced professionally with Ballet Idaho. She is a pilates instructor at Beyond Fitness Pilates and plans to attend physical therapy school in 2016.

The future groom graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boise State University and is a 2016 Juris Doctorate candidate at Harvard Law School.


Anniversary: Steve and Monica Brandner celebrate 30th

Steve and Monica Brandner were married in Bend, Oregon on Feb. 23, 1985 at the Nazarene Church. They will be celebrating their 30th anniversary.

Most of Monica’s family and friends were from the Lower 48, while Steve’s were mostly from Juneau. They have two daughters, Kristen and Kayla. Kayla is married to Adam and Kristen is currently in Nursing School at University of Alaska Anchorage. Steve and Monica are now grandparents to their first granddaughter, Selah Kay, born March 5, 2014.

They will celebrate at The Lodge outside of Sandpoint, Idaho.

The couple had an intimate ceremony, camped in the lighthouse and kayaked back to Juneau as Mr. and Mrs. Sheakley-Early.
