Stolpe, Bohrer wed

Klas Stolpe and Becky Bohrer were married near LeConte Glacier outside Petersburg, Alaska, on June 3, 2014. The couple was married on the F/V Windham Bay, with the captain of the fishing vessel, Ladd Norheim, a friend of the couple, serving as the marriage commissioner.

The couple wore Norwegian sweaters, a nod to Stolpe’s Scandinavian heritage, and Xtra-Tufs, a choice made all the better when it rained.

The groom is son of Sandy and Richard Dixon of Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Des Moines.

The wedding was officiated by Lance Northcutt. The couple makes their home in University Place, Wash.

Funeral held for woman who gave birth in coma

BETHEL — A funeral has been held in Bethel for a local woman who gave birth while in a coma after spending most of her pregnancy as clinically brain-dead.

KYUKsays the family of 29-year-old Jessie Ayagalria also is holding an ongoing fundraiser to care for baby Faith. The funeral was held Saturday.

The baby was delivered by cesarean section July 8 at an Anchorage hospital. The family was notified of Ayagalria’s death three days later.

Ayagalria’s sister, Krissy Medina, plans to begin the process to legally adopt the baby.

University's 'Outreach' reindeer a charmer

FAIRBANKS — Henry the outreach reindeer likes to play in water sprinklers, sample lichen from the hands of children and prance around the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus on a leash.

Thanks to his charisma, bystanders come to him from all sides to see him. They leave more informed about the Arctic’s unique domesticated species thanks to Henry’s handler Jennifer Robinette.

Guests took a catamaran to Colt Island where the wedding and reception took place. Both Juneau natives, the couple recently moved back to Juneau to make it their home. Their anniversary was spent celebrating with friends and family who helped make their wedding day possible.

Russian hunters get donation from North Slope borough

NOME — Russian hunters received $10,000 in humanitarian aid from Alaska’s North Slope Borough after they visited their distant Inuit relatives on Saint Lawrence Island for the first time in 14 years.

The hunters boated to the Alaskan island just south of the Russian border in late July and headed home to Russia’s Chukotsk Peninsula with the donation, which went toward supplies and fuel for the 70-mile journey.
